"The Sharks"
The River Hills CC Swim team, located in River Hills, is a competitive summer swim team open to children ages 4 to 18. Our team competes in the Metrolina Swim League along with teams from Tega Cay, Rock Hill CC, Lancaster, and Lake Wylie. Joining a summer swim team is one of the few competitive experiences which allows all children of a family to compete together on the same team.
“The Sharks” have approximately 140 swimmers. Swimmers compete by age group and gender as follows - 6 and unders, 7 and 8s, 9 and 10s, 11 and 12s, 13 and 14s, 15 and 18s. Our coaching staff specializes in teaching the techniques of all four strokes. Our younger swimmers (8 and unders) often come to us unable to swim the full length of the pool. We ask only that they be “water safe” (able to tread water) and we’ll teach them the rest.
The season begins the first Monday of May and ends with our awards banquet on the last Sunday of June. Practices are held in the River Hills CC lap pool. Swim meets usually start in June and culminate with our League Championship Meets. Throughout June we swim four dual meets.
Along with learning to swim, we offer many fun activities throughout the season. We begin with a kick-off party where swimmers meet each other and the coaches. Early in the season swimmers can attend our “Dinner with the Coaches” event. We also have a Buddy System through which each younger swimmer is paired with an older swimmer so throughout the meets the younger swimmer is supported by his or her older Buddy. This program kicks off at the Meet Your Buddy Practice.
Our swim team is a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents with similar aged children. Once you become a “swim team parent” you learn that meets are a lot more fun when you get involved as a volunteer timer, stroke judge, runner, score keeper, concession stand worker etc. We also have a phenomenal swim team parent board who are an amazing support to the coaching staff.
River Hills Country Club is a swim team friendly country club. They offer, to non country club members two summer pool memberships for those who sign their children up for the swim team.
